Celltex Honors Legendary Clients on USA Today’s 100 Greatest NFL Players of All Time List
Bob Lilly, Tony Dorsett and Randy White utilized the power of their own stem cells to improve their quality of life after years off the field.
HOUSTON, January 29, 2020 – Houston-based biotechnology company Celltex Therapeutics Corporation is proud to announce the company is continuing to advance its mission of improving the quality of life of individuals by working with football legends and Celltex clients including Jackie Sherrill, Bob Lilly, Lee Roy Jordan and Mel Renfro years after their time on the playing field.
Several Celltex clients including Bob Lilly, Tony Dorsett and Randy White were named to USA Today’s ranked list of the 100 greatest NFL players of all time, solidifying their status as retired legends. Post-career, it is common for athletes to suffer from joint pain, arthritis, cognitive issues, autoimmune disorders and other debilitating health conditions after devoting their lives to the sport. Lilly, Dorsett and White are among hundreds of Celltex clients who have banked their own MSCs with Celltex, received stem cell therapy and seen improvements in their conditions. Celltex’s proprietary technology has been recognized in the world of professional sports for helping athletes like these superstars to alleviate pain from their longtime athletic careers.
“Thanks to stem cell therapy using my stem cells produced by Celltex, I was able to avoid a double knee replacement and a rotator cuff repair,” said Sherrill, former collegiate football coach and Manager, Sports Program at Celltex. “Not only did stem cell therapy significantly reduce the pain I was living with on a daily basis, I now have complete range of motion in my left shoulder. Because of my experience, I am a believer in adult stem cell therapy. I am determined to find ways to make these therapies more accessible to athletes and anyone else living in pain.”
Coach Sherill has dedicated his post-football career to working with Celltex on advancing stem cell therapy research awareness, with the goal of helping other professional athletes regain their ability to enjoy life again. He hopes to continue bringing awareness about the safety and efficacy of adult stem cell therapy to professional sports leagues. In 2018, Sherrill co-founded the Institute for Stem Cell Research and Education (ISCRE) with a mission to help former athletes, servicemen/women and Alzheimer patients improve the quality of their lives through the advancement of stem cell technology by education, research and new clinical applications.
Lilly also experienced significant improvements after banking his own stem cells and receiving therapy for debilitating symptoms and pain associated with polymyalgia rheumatica. “After banking my stem cells and receiving therapy, I regained full range of motion in my shoulders. I am traveling again and taking road trips with my family. Overall, I am not suffering anymore,” he shares. “I have never felt better – I feel like a younger man! I cannot thank Celltex enough. They gave me my life back.”
The retired athletes recently participated in a wellness protocol clinical trial in Cancun, Mexico, sponsored by Celltex and authorized by COFEPRIS, Mexico’s regulatory governing body equivalent to the US Federal Drug Administration (FDA). The trial’s objective is to measure the quality of life of subjects living with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis before and after receiving stem cell therapy. As trial sponsor, Celltex provides autologous (one’s own) adult mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) cultured and expanded by the company’s proprietary stem cell process, which yields adult autologous MSCs in quantities never before possible for use in therapies for vascular, autoimmune, and degenerative diseases, as well as injuries.
The clinical trial is underway at Hospital Galenia in Cancun, Mexico, a private hospital awarded with three international accreditations: Consejo De Salubridad General (Mexico), Joint Commision International, and Accreditation Canada International. The modern facility presents an advanced medical infrastructure with highly trained physicians in the field of regenerative medicine, responsible for the application of the stem cell therapy under the Wellness Protocol Clinical Study.
“Celltex looks forward to progressing with the clinical trial and working with this incredible group of football legends,” said David G. Eller, Chairman, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Celltex. “We are confident that one day, millions of Americans in need will be able to access the regenerative power of their own adult stem cells for therapeutic purposes.”
