Psoriatic Arthritis Stem Cell Therapy

Learn About Psoriatic Arthritis & Celltex Stem Cell Therapy

Psoriatic arthritis is a common form of arthritis that often affects people who have psoriasis, a painful condition that is often identified with red patches of skin accompanied by silvery scales. Learn about how Celltex is helping to improve the quality of life of individuals suffering from psoriatic arthritis by using their own stem cells.

Condition Overview

What Is Psoriatic Arthritis?

Many people develop psoriasis first and are often later diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. Joint problems can sometimes begin before the red skin legions appear.

Joint pain, stiffness and swelling are the main symptoms of psoriatic arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis can affect any part of your body, including your fingertips and spine, and can range from relatively mild to severe. In both psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, disease and symptom flares may alternate with periods of remission. Without treatment, psoriatic arthritis may be disabling.

Both psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis are chronic diseases that get worse over time, but you may have periods when your symptoms improve or go into remission alternating with times when symptoms become much worse.

Psoriatic arthritis can affect joints on either side of your body. The signs and symptoms of psoriatic arthritis often resemble those of rheumatoid arthritis. Both diseases cause joints to become painful, swollen and warm to the touch.

Stem Cell Therapy Research

How Can Stem Cells Help with Psoriatic Arthritis?

Given the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), there is potential (especially in patients with an early diagnosis) that MSCs could help those suffering from psoriatic arthritis.

Transplantation of MSCs in humans for a variety of conditions has been generally well tolerated, although results have been variable as a function of delivery route, and the variability in the potency of cells between donors, tissue sources and culture conditions has been well documented.

Celltex Results for Inflammatory Arthritis

Celltex conducted a registry study based on the reported results of our clients with inflammatory arthritis (IA), a group of autoimmune disorders affecting one or more joints. Psoriatic arthritis was one of the conditions included in this study.

Following MSC Therapy:

  • 100% of Celltex client respondents reported improvement in one or more symptoms.
  • 75% of physicians noted a measured improvement in their patient’s IA symptoms.
  • 90% of client respondents with IA said they would recommend MSC therapy to others.
