In August 2017, I experienced a severe toe wound that required an amputation. Since I also suffer from peripheral vascular disease (PVD), a circulatory condition in which narrowed blood vessels reduce blood flow to the limbs, when I hurt my toe, this injury was exacerbated. The wound did not heal after months of suffering discomfort and pain.
My doctor said that the wound would not heal on its own due to my PVD and the poor circulation it caused to my foot. One of the great joys of my life is spending time with my five young grandchildren, and I was unable to be as active with them due to the pain from my wound. I knew that it was time to find a resolution so that I could get back to doing the things I love with the people I love.
I was unable to participate in outdoor activities or exercise, and I was in a great deal of pain. My doctors prescribed Santyl, a liquid wound debridement and I also had an atherectomy of the left leg lower limb, to no avail.
I was determined to find a solution, and after learning about stem cell therapy through online research, I discovered Celltex Therapeutics, a Houston-based biotechnology company specializing in adult stem cell banking. Celltex stood out because they use mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) – stem cells that come from my own body. After weeks of in-depth research and speaking with Celltex’s knowledgeable client service team, I decided to pursue banking. I went to have a small portion of my abdominal fat extracted in a tolerable and relatively painless procedure at a doctor’s office in downtown Chicago at the referral of Celltex.
After I had my fat extracted, my MSCs were processed in Celltex’s current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) laboratory in Houston, where scientists created a master bank of hundreds of millions of my adult MSCs. Once my MSCs were banked, I was ready to go to Cancun, Mexico to receive therapy at Celltex’s affiliate, the state-of-the-art Hospital Galenia.
In February 2018, I flew to Cancun to receive an IV infusion of hundreds of millions of my own stem cells. I had an excellent experience in Cancun at Hospital Galenia. I was impressed by the hospital staff, who were extremely professional, helpful and knowledgeable throughout the visit and therapy process. The Celltex team was also readily available throughout the trip, providing transportation and answering any questions I had along the way.
I received nine therapeutic infusions while in Cancun (both intravenous injections and directly around the toe wound), and within four months of receiving therapy, I was pain free and healed by July 2018. I can now swim, participate in water sports, bike and in general, I feel great on a day to day basis. I also no longer need to rely on Santyl or pain pills to get through the day.
I am so grateful to Celltex for the quick recovery that allowed me to literally “get back on my feet” and participate in my normal daily activities, pain free! I am again able to be an active grandfather to my grandchildren, and I could not be more grateful.
Thank you,
